Here are Strategies for Dealing with Flooding in East Jakarta

To overcome flooding that repeatedly occurs in several locations, the East Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-dept. has implemented various strategies, starting from dredging mud in reservoirs and connecting channels, as well as micro water channels in residential areas.

The program aims to anticipate flooding during the rainy season

East Jakarta Mayor, Muhamad Anwar stated anticipating and handling flooding in his area is one of the current priority programs.

"The program aims to anticipate flooding during the rainy season has been running well. It just needs to be accelerated, thus when the rain comes there are no more inundation," he expressed, Wednesday (11/22).

East Jakarta SDA Sub-dept. Head, Wawan Kurniawan added that besides dredging the embung (artificial lakes) and channels, the personnel also repaired the collapsed sheet piles due to water erosion.

"There are several steps that have been taken to overcome recurring flooding. These include draining or dredging connecting and micro channels spread across 10 sub-districts. Then dredging the mud in the reservoir, repairing the sheet pile and so on," he expressed.

East Jakarta SDA Sub-dept's Maintenance Division Head, Puryanto stated that this year, as many as 462 channel locations in 10 sub-districts were dredged. Of this number, around 85 percent of them had been completed.

His personnel also had dredged 14 reservoirs. Among them were namely Tiu, Halim, Cilangkap Agro Tourism long storage, Kramat Jati Embung, Cendrawasih Embung, and others.

"We do not involve the third party to dredge the mud, but PJLP employees. Including its hravy equipment, truck drivers, and BBM supplier," he explained.

His party also repaired collapsed and damaged sheet piles in several locations. It involved the SDA Task Force and was partly worked on by the third party winning the tender.

The work carried out by the third party included repairs to the Tambun Rengas sheet pile, Kayu Putih connecting channel, Tegal Amba connecting channel, Gongseng connecting channel, and Utan Kayu connecting channel.

Then Kali Baru sheet piles in Jatinegara, Cijantung River on Jalan Lebak, channels on Jalan Pule, Ciracas, and some points.
